Hostal La Gavina, Girona
Savannah & Alex
31 May 2025

Some weddings feel as though they belong to the place from the very beginning, and that was certainly the case for Savannah and Alex’s destination wedding at Hostal La Gavina. Set above Sant Pol bay in S’Agaró, on Spain’s Costa Brava, the hotel has old-world rooms, beautiful terraces and the Mediterranean stretching out in every direction. Savannah and Alex, an American couple, brought their families across the ocean to celebrate with them, and the closeness between them and their families was felt throughout the day.
Before the ceremony, they read the vows they had written for each other, just the two of them. They then married in the garden beneath the colonnade, its columns covered in red, pink and yellow flowers, with the Mediterranean as their quiet witness. Just before dinner, Savannah and Alex shared their first dance on the terrace overlooking Sant Pol bay, surrounded by the dinner tables. After dinner, a live band took over and the dancing carried on late into the night.
Part of the day was captured on 35mm film. Sonia of Barcelona Weddings kept everything moving with the calm and warmth that are so characteristic of her.

Weddings at Hostal La Gavina
Hostal La Gavina is one of those rare places where the setting does much of the work. Perched above Sant Pol bay in S’Agaró, it has the feeling of an old Mediterranean villa, beautiful terraces, gardens, sea views and rooms filled with character. The ceremony, drinks and dinner can all unfold around the hotel, each space offering a different view of the coast as the day moves into evening.
If La Gavina is your venue, or you’re still looking along the Costa Brava, tell me your story and your date, I would love to hear more about your vision.
Good to know
Where are the best photo spots at Hostal La Gavina?
La Gavina has a great variety of spaces for photographs, which makes the couple session feel really complete. The gardens, terraces and sea views offer plenty of different backdrops, while the interiors bring in the character of the hotel; marble, old-world details.
When should we plan couple portraits?
I usually recommend two short moments. The first is right after the ceremony, while your guests move on to the aperitivo. Then, later in the day, we take another 10 minutes around sunset, when the light is at its most beautiful.
Do you photograph other Costa Brava wedding venues?
Yes – across the Costa Brava and Catalonia, from S’Agaró to the masias inland.
